Wrestling The To-Do List Hydra — Simple Saturday
--
The prize is advanced accomplishments and a more relaxed you.
You can get there from here.
The to-do list is a tool that’s meant to help you manage a life that may already be too busy. If it’s getting out of control and managing you, it’s time to try new approaches. For example:
Limit the list to what absolutely needs to be there. One way to do this is to give yourself a small space to keep the list on.
Yes And No
Say no to what takes more than it gives if you can. Say yes to help when it’s offered.
Communicate with the people involved to let them know you need to simplify and ask them what they think. They may have zero idea that you are overwhelmed.
Don’t add anything to the list until you’ve finished what’s on it. This is where I am right now. I’m done with the above and tapping the prize button. It didn’t take long to get to this point. In my case, the part of the list that was hanging on for months is finished.
Two more thoughts to consider: Sometimes long lists are about perfectionism. Sometimes they’re about procrastination. Or both. If this is what’s happening with you, it’s time to figure out how to resolve it. That step could go to the top of the list.
Break the remaining tasks down into smaller steps that fit into the time you can give them and still take care good care of yourself. Follow the suggestions above that work for you. Forget about the ones that don’t. Let it be that simple unless you feel a need to dive into understanding why you don’t like the suggestion(s).
Simplify everywhere you can and that will give you room to grow where you are ready to expand
Remember to tap the prize button and celebrate!
